Indonesia adopts new repressive narcotics law

A new Narcotics Law was adopted by the Parliament in Jakarta in September 2009. Although a careful textual analysis of the legislation is still needed, it is clear that the political considerations far outweighed sensible drug policy arguments in the adoption process, which is reflected in the texts. As a consequence, the new law did not represent a move away from a repressive approach to drugs and their use towards a more considerate and complex legislation. At the same time with the adoption of the Narcotics Law, a new health law was passed by the legislative assembly. The linkages between these two pieces of legislation and their impact on drug treatment are still unclear. The appropriate response is still considered by both national and international stakeholders. A report from the Community Legal Aid Institute in Jakarta printed in their newsletter CAVEAT outlines the problems with the new legislation.

What do you want? Indonesia is an Islamic country-for the most part-I lived there and nothing is going to change anytime soon. If you have a problem with it then don't go there. I love to have the freedom to smoke what I want when I want, but that is how it is where I come from. Just becuase you smoke pot at home doesn't mean you need to do it when you're a guest in someone elses country. The only crime I encountered in Bali when I lived there was dumbass tourists and small amounts of drugs. Most of the time the suckers who are buying the shit are getting ripped off and buying seaweed. hahaha fuck `em. Keep the harsh drug laws and keep the crime down. You have to pay to play. I did mushrooms in Bali a number of times. They grow there and there isn't such a stigma on them. Only because they're considered natural, and they aren't a highly sought after drug. If I had gotten busted I would have paid the price and known that I was "paying to play". So stop crying about all these harsh laws. Blame their their stupid fucking religion and see how far that gets you. I'm not just picking on the Muslims, I hate all the big 3 with equal animosity (Judaism, Christianity, Islam).

I think you should be alowed to smoke anywere you want to but you also have to respect the laws in other countrys.
But as a marijuana activist this step is a step back in the evolution of the peoples minds,one day i hope we all respect each others right to smoke whatever we want because we are not doing anything wrong, and if marijuana is legalized there will be less and less money going to the hand of the dealer.

I am completly awere that it won´t be soon but one step at the time we will be able to do it someday...
